Benedict Cumberbatch’s return as the mystical superhero. The movie, officially called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is slated for release on May 7 2021 and will see a new adventure for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Stephen Strange alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.

The first official poster for Doctor Strange 2 was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, and shows off two different looks for Marvel Studios’ sorcerer supreme.

One sees Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) bedecked in his classic red costume while another shows him sporting what looks like a less traditional outfit with greys, blues and whites replacing the bright reds of his regular suit.

Both images look stunning and hint at a number of major changes to the Doctor Strange 2 movie from the original 2016 film.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be a much darker and scarier movie than its predecessor, with director Scott Derrickson saying that it will be the first “true horror” movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The new Doctor Strange 2 poster seems to reflect this change in tone, with the colours and images hinting at a more sinister and dangerous adventure for Benedict Cumberbatch’s superhero.

With production on Doctor Strange 2 now underway, we can expect to see more posters and images released in the coming months. For now, you can check out the new official poster below.

The first official poster for Doctor Strange 2: In the Multiverse of Madness has arrived, and it’s a doozy.

The new Doctor Strange 2 poster features a very different look for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme, and it hints at what we can expect from the darker and scarier vibe of Marvel Studios’ upcoming sequel.

Check out the new Doctor Strange 2 poster below:

This is the first time that we’ve seen two sides to Doctor Strange in one image, which certainly fits with director Scott Derrickson’s description of his upcoming film as being “the first scary MCU movie.”

It also seems to promise an adventure that will incorporate both science and mysticism, as Stephen is described in the script as having “a more complex relationship with magic than ever before.” Teasingly, he’s also said that this more complicated approach to magic will “lead us to a different and darker place.”

It’s also worth noting that, though Strange has donned the red outfit in previous posters for the movie, this is the first time that he has done so since Doctor Strange 2 was announced at San Diego Comic-Con last year.

That said, it seems like we’ll be seeing quite a few new looks for Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange over the course of production on the film, which is set to begin later this month.

This latest poster comes hot on the heels of another teaser image from Marvel Studios themselves (see below), which showed off Benedict Cumberbatch wearing an outfit with colors more closely matching his actual costume.

Avengers: Endgame was undoubtedly a very dark movie, and now it seems that Doctor Strange 2 will be following suit. It’s hard to imagine how this Marvel sequel can possibly top Infinity War or Endgame in terms of scale and emotion, but we’re definitely excited to see how Scott Derrickson and his team honor the magic of the MCU multiverse while building something new with Doctor Strange 2.

After tackling dimensions both far-flung and close-at-hand, Dr. Stephen Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) will journey into another dimension in director Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first “scary” movie, as Derrickson described it.

The film is set to hit theaters May 7, 2021, and today, we have our first look at the project in the form of an official poster. The one-sheet (seen below) doesn’t give away too much—we see Cumberbatch’s Strange staring intently at… something or someone off-screen, with his cloak billowing behind him in what appears to be a windswept location.

In the background are various symbols and sigils, which may hold clues about Doctor Strange 2‘s plot.

We also get a new tagline for the sequel: “The Multiverse is open.” In the original film, Strange traveled between various dimensions and realities of existence; in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he may travel through space and time to encounter foes both familiar and entirely new.

So what can we surmise about Doctor Strange 2 from this poster? Well, for starters, it appears that Cumberbatch is wearing his traditional red costume (with a cloak), which makes sense given how beloved his classic look is among fans.

However… something appears to be off with him: He looks haggard, like he’s been traveling for some time—and something on his belt suggests an injury or medical problem. Is this all flashback material, or will the sequel actually feature Strange with a wound of some sort?

The poster also appears to tease the return of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, who is set to play a major role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We know that she and Strange will team up in the film, which will make them the first superpowered couple in the MCU. Could this be a hint at their relationship status in the sequel? Only time will tell…

Of course, we’ll have to wait until May 2021 to find out for sure what Doctor Strange 2 has in store for us. Until then, let the speculation begin!
